Re: Those that go camping with their tech gadgets

Have a pint  at the local pub (with WiFi) and ask if you can charge your device at the same time.

Charge: car charger or a dedicated usb charger unit, which is then charged in the car
Access the net: a mifi device lets you connect 5 devices to your mobile connection.
You can get a Vodaphone one for £15 in Tesco, then 99p to unlock it and a 3sim for the 321 offer.

I don't like the sound of going through ebay for a code, that may / may not work

It is a guaranteed code for 99p. I used ebay to unlock my 3dongle a few years ago, with no problems.

Re: Those that go camping with their tech gadgets

if its a weekend away then a solar power system for the phone and  with possibly a few pebble power units and I use the phones internet, if its a longer trip I get a place with electric hookup and use a laptop with tethering to the phone...

Join your local library  most have Wi FI so you can use it for no charge, problem with the pub or a cafe is that you need to purchase something

Re: Those that go camping with their tech gadgets

the good thing about the pub is that you get to sit out of the weather and drink a coffee or a soft drink (depending on the weather) whilst it works
the bad thing about the library is you have to locate it and its closed on weekends when your on your camping trip .....

Re: Those that go camping with their tech gadgets

I've got a small motor bike type 12V gel battery (7 AH capacity). That will power led lights for many hours and could also be used to charge phones etc. Couple that with a briefcase size solar panel and you should be good for weeks with no access to power.

Re: Those that go camping with their tech gadgets

When I used to go caravanning sans electric, I used my laptop powered by an inverter from the car, the caravan electrics were fed from another battery in the van. That worked for me for many years.
Depends really on how you are camping, with a vehicle or by backpack. By backpack get solar chargers to charge things via usb while you walk.

Re: Those that go camping with their tech gadgets

I'm amazed at what I've learnt from this thread!
Apparently if I go camping in the middle of nowhere I can expect to find a pub and also a library!!!  Cheesy
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: Those that go camping with their tech gadgets

You don't <i>actually</i> need direct sun to use solar power chargers.
