The wheel clamping ban - Did you know..

Hi
It's a simple question and I won't go into details here as I just want to know the answer to the question: The government have it well known about the ban on clamping but they've been keeping other things quiet.
Have you heard about the 'other' new powers that are being given to private parking companies with respect to their parking tickets?

Re: The wheel clamping ban - Did you know..

Ok well I think this has pretty much run its course now as there are no new replies or votes..
The Protection of Freedoms bill is aiming to make the registered keeper of a vehicle legally liable for any PPC (Private Parking Company) PCNs issued. In other words you won't be able to use the old defence of "You can't force me to name the driver", the RK will be legally responsible for the PCN.
The clamping ban was a smokescreen.

I've just read the summary of the Protection of Freedoms Bill as it passed through the Commons and Lords and can't find any reference to this.  Can you please point us in the direction of your information?

Re: The wheel clamping ban - Did you know..

I think this is the actual schedule you were looking for:
Quote
Right to claim unpaid parking charges from keeper of vehicle
4 (1) The creditor has the right to claim payment of any unpaid parking charges
from the keeper of the vehicle.
(2) That right applies only if—
(a) the conditions in paragraphs 5 and 6 are met; and
(b) in the case of a registered vehicle, the condition in paragraph 7 is also
met.

It simply brings parking charges into line with other motoring laws.  Certainly not the Machiavellian plot suggested by the OP.  It is covered in about 2 pages in a 187 page Bill.

Re: The wheel clamping ban - Did you know..

I think we both know how PPCs operate and that they will ensure the conditions are met.
This will happen. The government are short on revenue so its in their interests to ensure that the private parking sector can carry on scamming money from people.
Years ago there was the arguement that digital photos couldn't be used to prove a car was parked illegally. Now look whats common practice  Roll eyes
