The theatre of cruelty.

There are calls for the Jeremy Kyle show to be axed following the death of a man who appeared soon after he was on the programme with one psychiatrist going so far as to call it the theatre of cruelty.

I have to agree as it always seems to have on folks who are not the sharpest if we are being honest, and more like social pornography rather than fair and measured programming. Yes I have watched it of course, but more out of curiosity (aren't we all) but then switch over... or just switch off.

Time to end it along with the likes of 'Can't Pay? We'll Take it Away!'Huh

I think so.

Re: The theatre of cruelty.

What's that unwritten rule 'don't wash your dirty linen in public'.

I personally know someone who has been on the show and said it was a great laugh.....their 15 minutes of 'fame'.

I don't like this type of program where people pour out their problems to a cheering studio audience.

Re: The theatre of cruelty.

It's a tough call that's for sure, and those lines are thin between control, personal choice and self responsibility with the only real solution being that off button.Sad

Re: The theatre of cruelty.

Maybe with a slight change the program could become even more popular.

Just have MP's on it for Kyle to prod and poke. I think he would be good at that.

The only problem is that the MP would have to be attention seeking and a bit daft to appear on a program like this.

Maybe not a problem after all.

Re: The theatre of cruelty.

The program, trades on exhibitionism... on the part of the "protaganists" and the audience relish it when a serious disagreement betwen all on stage happes.... it is like going to watch a bull fight... hoping that the bullfighter gets gored and thrown about by the bull..

Thank goodness we don`t have bull fighting in this country... but I suppose... if you are " that way inclined"  then this program is a good substitute.

Never watched it, never will, so I don’t really care.

He'll soon find another one. Wink

Does he not have something else on the go?

Re: The theatre of cruelty.

Nope, for one I'm normally working during the day and even when I'm off on holiday I have got much better things to do with my life than watch 💩like this. If something new comes on TV I'll judge it by the trailer, so if the trailer shows promise then I'll watch the first episode and take it from there.

But as @Strat says one should never do one's laundry in public, seriously, no one should really be subject to your skid marks of life, no one other than those closest to you.

I think he does other programs for ITV, I sometimes see listings in the EPG with his name in the title.

No Theresa! Not that one!

No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

I think you mean died? soon after...

Anyway yes I completely agree. Jeremy Kyle has been nothing but a freak show for years like big brother was. Okay, big brother contestants did what they did voluntarily but they were still put through the ringer. On JK's show they were really trashed. I don't like the guy, he's an arrogant posh boy who himself had an affair yet feels he has a strong enough moral compass to lecture others on such shenanigans. He's a jumped up little **** if you ask me.

As for channel 5 and their bailiff programs (they also have "the sheriffs are coming") yes I personally feel those should have been axed many years ago. I simply cannot understand how they are allowed to enter someones house and then broadcast that persons distress inside private property to the entire nation. That is literally an invasion of privacy and completely goes against the principles of data protection and yet the ICO have apparently turned a blind eye. There as one family though that sued C5 a year or two back and got £20k compensation for being featured on Can't pay.

TV cruelty and humniliation needs to stop. Those who are in desperate situations do not need the nation frowning upon them and lecturing them when they are struggling. It MUST stop.

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Or not.

ITV's statement in full:

"Given the gravity of recent events we have decided to end production of The Jeremy Kyle Show.

"The Jeremy Kyle Show has had a loyal audience and has been made by a dedicated production team for 14 years, but now is the right time for the show to end.

"Everyone at ITV's thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Steve Dymond.

"The previously announced review of the episode of the show is under way and will continue.

"ITV will continue to work with Jeremy Kyle on other projects."
