Re: The only BB in the village

Wonder if the outcry would have been so bitter, had the vicar, been selected as the only Broadband line in the village. !
Never mind, the government is going to build a lot of small exchanges, (didn`t Post Office Telcoms have them?) in villages, by 2012,, so that those with less than 2mb speed will achieve it.... Cheesy

The government has promised to provide all homes in the UK with speeds of at least 2Mbps by 2012.

That is disgraceful. If I lived in Hambleden village I'd be livid.  Angry

Be a nice gesture if he installed a powerful wireless router and opened up to his neighbours.

Well, Nadger that lets me out! Not that I'd want to go down South when I already live in the best place - God's own county and 10 miles from Plusnet - what more could one ask?  Wink

Indeed. Anyone there is likely to be able to afford 3G or satellite internet connection.

Re: The only BB in the village

I don't know what mobile reception would be like in the village but, as you say, people living there wouldn't really be pushed to pay for it.

Re: The only BB in the village

One wonders why  no broadband at all. There are places around me with coverage - albeit slow - much further than where they are.
Only four kilometers from Henley exchange. http://www.multimap.com/s/iVsCnkgu

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/mapping/mapping.php?ecode=THML
And no doubt there was / is a Post office there - and years ago they had the manual telephone exchange.
So called progress - no Post Office , no local telephone switch in many villages.
