Quote The village of Apperley Bridge in Yorkshire is one of the most burgled places in Britain
Britain’s most burgled postcodes have been revealed – with Yorkshire and London vying to become the highest-risk place to live.
Fully half of the top 20 were in Yorkshire, with London the next most burgled place, with Birmingham, Lincolnshire and Hertfordshire rounding off the list.
“Homeowners [in high-risk areas] need to be extra vigilant when it comes to security – installing timers on your lights and ensuring items of value are kept away from your windows are easy steps to take to reduce risk. But you never know when an opportunistic thief may strike, so it’s crucial to ensure your home contents insurance is fully up to date, and is at a high enough level to cover all your belongings sufficiently,” said Julie Fisher, head of home insurance at Moneysupermarket – who conducted the research.
Moneysupermarket looked at 3 million applications for home insurance across the UK in the last 12 months, then cross-referenced where people had made claims for burglary with where they lived to work out the areas most at risk.

DOCUMENTARY: Burglar in the House
On: BBC 1
Date: Wednesday 1st February 2012 (Already shown)
Time: 22:45 to 23:30 (45 minutes long)
Every two minutes a house in Britain is burgled, and for years Nottingham has suffered the highest burglary rates in the UK. But the city's police are fighting back, and are now capturing the burglars on camera. They are installing hidden minicams inside ordinary homes, which record the thieves in action. They call them 'capture houses', Nottingham's new weapon in the fight against crime. But is this new technology as reliable as the police think? And should the police be allowed to set traps for burglars? Part of the Modern Crime season, this documentary takes viewers to the frontline of a surburban crime-wave, witnessing first-hand the cat-and-mouse battle currently being played out across Nottingham. The film shows heart-stopping footage of burglars breaking into homes, and follows the intelligence and burglary teams as they hunt the burglars down. And cameras are there in the interview room as the burglar is shown the damning footage.

Quote from: artmo big increases in insurance
Having little or no police on the beat has cost the tax payer dear. The amount saved by this bad decision must be insignificant compared to the end cost to Joe Public.
