The best things about getting older

Adding on to the previous topic of 'How do you know when you're getting older' I thought that it would be good to know what the upside of ageing is. Of course there is nobody on the forum who is old  Roll eyes  but do stretch the imagination.....
I quite like not giving a ***** what people think about me anymore - now I can just say what I like, claim to be a grumpy old woman and that's accepted. I also like being able to get into things/events a bit cheaper.
It's good, too, to be able to take the long view of things - after all we've seen it all before, haven't we?
When I have something to worry about, I also like the fact that more often than not my memory is so bad that I forget about it!
Anyone else...........?

I like the fact that I don't have to go to the bathroom for a pee anymore.

Re: The best things about getting older

One of the best things is being able to enjoy your time with your grandchildren, and giving them back afterwards...
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

1. retiring from Work!
2. having bus pass
3. cheaper admission prices to many things
4. not worrying what people think about your taste in clothes
and am sure lots of other things that I can't remember at the moment! Smiley

Re: The best things about getting older

My other half (who is over 60 but not retired yet) finds her bus pass very handy.
She commutes into central London by train, arriving about 9:30 then uses the buses for free to get to the office, go shopping etc.
It's absolutely useless where we live as there is minimal bus transport - and none whatsoever to anywhere useful.

You don't need to be old to get them free, if you are diabetic you can get a Medical Exemption card, you can get a form from the pharmacy for one, my lass is diabetic.

There's a list of conditions that entitle you to a Medex card; I happen to have one of them (a card and a condition).
It's no fun though... Sad

Re: The best things about getting older

just to clarify it not all diabetics are eligible.
This is from the NHS site
The specified medical conditions are:
    * a permanent fistula (for example caecostomy, colostomy, laryngostomy or ileostomy) requiring continuous surgical dressing or requiring an appliance
    * forms of hypoadrenalism (for example Addison's disease) for which specific substitution therapy is essential
    * diabetes insipidus or other forms of hypopituitarism
    * diabetes mellitus except where treatment is by diet alone
    * hypoparathyroidism
    * myasthenia gravis
    * myxoedema
    * epilepsy requiring continuous anticonvulsive therapy
    * a continuing physical disability which means the person cannot go out without the help of another person. Temporary disabilities do not count even if they last for several months.

Re: The best things about getting older

You wouldn't want any of those, honest!
Even if you do get all prescriptions (for anything, not just the condition) free.

the above covers all diabetes, ergo, diabetes qualifies.
