The Queen - Our Longest Serving Monarch

On 9th September the Queen will become our longest serving Monarch when she passes the length of the reign of Queen Victoria.

To commemorate the occasion the Royal Mint has issued a special £20 coin and a range of other coins.

Re: The Queen - Our Longest Serving Monarch

When she passes that landmark will she now retire as has often been suggested and hinted by many people in the know.
Will we finally get a spaniel as a monarch?

Not an unexpected response from you.  The Queen is a very hard working individual. I doubt you could do half of what she does. Wink

Re: The Queen - Our Longest Serving Monarch

without the royals this country would be a poor version of Russia with double the oppression and none of the booze (just look at what the "its bad and must be banned brigade have done in the last 20 years) long live the queen and her heirs, long may they reign over us and keep the commies at bay!

We've had this conversation before artmo. There is a difference between working hard and working smart.
When has the queen ever worked a 12 hour shift in a warehouse?
You seriously call living a life with lots of staff looking after you hard work? - I think you need to stop insulting people.

You're right. I couldn't let people slave away on my behalf and live with myself.

Re: The Queen - Our Longest Serving Monarch

So you'd prefer to get rid of the monarchy and have someone like Maggie as president - that's what would happen!

Re: The Queen - Our Longest Serving Monarch

It's well known she worked long hours during the war
It's also acknowledged by most that when you rule Someone else does the household chores, indeed most people far from having a problem with the queen and her heirs have a distinct problem with the wider family and the rest of the nobility, generally because of a giant case of envy although they would never admit it, it's only the hopeless fanaticism of the communist dream that already died out through unworkability in every region that flocked behind it's ill conceived banner .....
Taking umbrage at the notion of relying on staff to keep you fed and watered in aclean home is strange, take me a meer commoner I have a wife who for years did all the chores while I was working, she might of felt downtrodden about it but only because domestic's actually get paid......

well no you would get some sound bite chasing buffoon like Yvette cooper because whilst Maggie was a tad grandiose she was capable of doing the job of running the country....

A tad?
The way she paraded about on her 'Royal Walkabouts' you'd think she was the queen!

Re: The Queen - Our Longest Serving Monarch

As her envoy to the world was she not supposed to be accorded the same courtesies and treated as if she were the monarch by those that wished to curry favour?
Unless your referring to the last couple of years when she had been entertaining dementia and blurred the lines between fantasy and reality....

Maggie won the falklands.. at a time when we had no aircraft carriers. Instead she tooled up a couple of helicopter carriers with harriers and sent our boys down there and retook the falklands.
While she also screwed up a lot of stuff she also did a lot of good (allegedly). The railways enjoyed a lot of her support.. despite not liking them herself.

Re: The Queen - Our Longest Serving Monarch

It's traditional for the so called lower classes to envy the so called upper classes.
What a terrible world it would be if everyone achieved 'professional occupation' status.
I have no problem with the queen and her immediate family.
