The Prisoner has died

The Prisoner, Patrick McGoohan, the creator and star of cult classic, has died aged 80.
He died after a short illness, his son-in-law, film producer Cleve Landsberg, said.

He owned the rights to 'The Prisoner' and wanted to make it into a movie.  It never happened.  McGoohan was a keen poker player and at one game in Vegas found himself holding three of a kind. Quietly confident, as everyone upped the ante, he chucked the rights to 'The Prisoner' into the pot. Unfortunately, someone else at the table had a straight flush. No-one expected the winning exec to actually take McGoohan's meal ticket off him. But to the disgust of the other players, he did just that."

He was at the Playhouse Theatre in Sheffield from 1947 to 1952. SWMBO's uncle managed it for a few years and remembered him as a lad.
