Come on up, the Views are FREE !!!
And spectacular.
And it's not too busy at the moment..
Just be aware of Blackpool Lights Traffic on the way !!
M55 tailing back onto the M6 evenings.
Come and spend a long weekend, and miss the traffic.
Lots of lovely places to stay.
We've already been here a week, possibly another couple of weeks.
Not many visitors about, lots of great walks.
PS:
Despite what the sign shows........ Squirrels DO NOT DRIVE !!
Slowly or otherwise.
There's loads of them about at the moment, gathering their winter food for storage.
We have a few near our Cottage, probably a couple of families.
Just been watching them up & down the trees.
They are fairly tame, and will approach us in the Garden.

A beautiful area indeed. I was able to trace my paternal line through the industrial north, right back to a tiny village on the north Cumbrian coast and one that looks out onto the Solway Firth.
It's on my bucket list for a place to visit..... and before I pops those clogs!
Don't limit the friends you haven't met with arguments you'll never have.

Having spent the last couple of days in the Lakes with a number of friends, I am not sure I would agree with a few of your comments, Grasmere was packed with visitors due to 7 or 8 coach loads of visitors and the car park was full, fortunately there is a layby on the main road so we got the last space there.
True the colours are now starting to change but it will be several weeks plus a few cold spells before they are really full of colour and Tarn Hows or any other tarn or lake that reflects the colour of the trees in the water is the place to be.
The area has some of the top resturants in the country and some great pubs.
Glad you had a good time

We avoid the Touristy areas.
Our cottage is near Buttermere
Agreed, Tarn Hows is spectacular later on in the year...

We were up there in August (cottage between Windermere & Ambleside). Chucked it down every day, still, a nice time was had by all.
Someone mentioned genealogy - I have traced one line back to Kendal at the end of the 18th century. They upped sticks to Liverpool, like all my other lines.

What a Glorious day it is today.
Clear Blue Sky, very warm in the Sunshine, 34ºC in direct sun !!
We've had some lovely weather recently, each day the colours get more & more Autumnal.
Tarn Hows is an amazing sight to be seen, apart from all the Grockles !!
Catching up with the locals is great.
We don't want to come Home...... yet
We are told it's pretty nice in Derbyshire too !
Perhaps just another week up here.....

We are doing fairly well for weather this week.
Tuesday saw me doing the rounds of Buckbarrow, Seatallan & Middle Fell, views of the Wastwater screes were excellent from some of those areas.
