Re: The Budget

Given the price at the pump has gone UP by nearly 10p/l in the  past couple of months a 1p/l cut isn't really cutting the mustard.
In some ways I am glad that I am no longer working in Edinburgh and using 500 miles worth of diesel every week, but then again I miss the money  Cry
But not the twice yearly car servicing/new tyres etc.

Re: The Budget

Don't forget that VAT went up for petrol and diesel in January so he's given a little of that back.

You sure?  I thought I read the exact opposite.

here's confirmation for you.
Fuel Duty
In addition to the scrapping of the extra 5p per litre the fuel cost escalator is also being scrapped. This will be replaced by a fair fuel stabilizer.

Re: The Budget

So, a penny per litre off heh? My wife has just returned from doing the weekly shop at Morrisons (Hillsborough, Sheffield). Petrol has been reduced by a penny per litre, but NOT diesel. Guess which fuel we use?

For all you who drives diesel vehicles, did you know that you can use old chip oil in your vehicle?
Here is how to run your vehicle on chip oil.

Re: The Budget

According to some sources (breakfast news) this morning, some supermarkets put their petrol up by 1p yesterday morning and then put it down by 1p after 6:00 last night (or just waited until this morning to do it Sad )

It also said that as far as public finances were concerned "the totality of measures announced in [Wednesday's] Budget was a fiscal non-event".
Funny I read a precis of that on chit-chat before It was published on the Institute of Fiscal Studies web site.
@Strat, have you found another job Roll eyes

Yep, we've noticed that going on around here too. It seems that along with the chancellor they're quite happy making their millions while trying to convince us its all out of their hands.

He had so little room for maneuver that he did the best he could.  I think he could have done more for pensioners though.  I'm not too happy that he's reduced the winter fuel allowance to £200. (£300 for the over 80's)
