The Ashes

The main event of the summer starts this morning.
My take on it is that the Aussie seam / fast bowling has improved and is a threat but their batting, the admirable Clarke aside, is quite poor; Broad and Anderson must be licking their lips at the prospect of Hughes standing 22 yards away from them when they have the new ball in their hands.
England has a great advantage in spin bowling. Swann is a proven Test Match winner whereas Lyon is……well…would he even get into a County team?
Our batting is easily a match for their bowling, good though it is, but their batting is just waiting to be cut to pieces by our attack; 3-0 to England

Re: The Ashes

Interesting choice, they've dropped Lyon and brought in a young slow left armer; should KP be fretting?

Re: The Ashes

3-1, one test rained off.
Apparently the leftie is quite handy. Like you, other than Clarke, I'm not sure where the Aussie runs are going toi come from.  Probably the weakest Australian side we've played in my lifetime.

Re: The Ashes

England win toss and will bat. Interesting choice with the cloud cover!
I'd have sent in Jimmy and \o/ BROAD \o/ to go and knock them over.

Re: The Ashes

That’s the beauty of cricket, so many opinions. I would have stuck with the mantra of: ‘Win the toss and think about bowling then bat’.
I think our batting matches their bowling attack pretty well and, should we get a decent score, I can’t see the Aussie batting line up doing too well when facing 450-500

Re: The Ashes

It's not looking great weather wise.. maybe the plan is to demoralise them with the bat, hope it doesn't backfire.

Re: The Ashes

First time we have lost the last 4 wickets for 2 or less since 98/99.
Still, Aussies might fold.  We ALWAYS start series' badly though.

Re: The Ashes

It had better not be all over by Friday Grin, my daughter got us tickets for my birthday present earlier this year.
