I've been told that it was an Avro 504J serial C4451 based at C Flight of the School of Special Flying, Gosport. c1918.

They are remarkably similar to the Sopwith I must admit and I for one would have been unable to tell the difference or indeed know the serial number and added details had it not been positively identified.

My Great Aunt by the way was not a pilot - not in that skirt anyway, she was what was known back then as a rigger.
