Tesco today, 2pm, no queue, store nearly empty.

Car park remarkably unpopulated.

No till queue.

No missing items.

Likewise Aldi here at around 16:00.

I suspect the main reason for that is because it was hissing down today.

Scintillating stuff.  Roll_eyes

Re: Tesco Home Delivery

I find some things strange. Go back a month of so and there were long queues outside Lidl's and Asda. At one point I just nipped in the pound shop for milk as it was easier.

Lately there has been no queues at Lidl's and Asda but there has been queues at the pound shop.

And as I mentioned on another thread no one at all in or near the school clothes / uniform shop. Just two forlorn shop assistants chatting. Probably about their future as shop assistants. Or perhaps the complete lack of government decision on the question of schooling, or the lack of it.

Re: Tesco Home Delivery

No queues at the local tesco here either, relatively busy inside (for a store in a village) but pretty much on balance with the one-in one-out 40 people limit, aside from the one-way system and people masked up, not that many people obey it, it's pretty normal in there...

Re: Tesco Home Delivery

We were going to do a "heatwave" Salad shop early today.......

But didn't bother

Did a home stocktake and food consolidation yesterday,  we have more than enough food that doesn't require a hot oven to last the week, and beyond.

Re: Tesco Home Delivery

Call that a heatwave?

This is a heatwave:

Our enforced less-than-once-a week shop means that we have a large selection of strange foodstuffs backed up, but never too much salad!

Where are you @ffox?  The BBC have London down as 31, 31, and 33C for Wednesday, Thurday, and Friday respectively.  They did have Friday down as 34C earlier.

Re: Tesco Home Delivery

I should have known better !

After a few weeks of Tesco instore shopping with no queues, and no problems, today I drove to Tesco for a food store topup........ not really needed, just on a whim

Lunchtime Friday !!!

First warning sign, the car park was chokka, ie full

Large queue of cars leaving the store, clumped up at traffic lights.

Then as I drove towards the store, there was an enormous queue of shoppers, from the store entrance, halfway around the very large car park.

I guess many were sunbathing at a beach, or riverside yesterday

I didn't stop, I wasn't desperate for food.

Drove home, thankful for not actually desperately needing any food.

We usually run out of bread, but recently have been buying an extra loaf, and freezing 4 slices portions wrapped in foil.

We also have a few jars of Marmite in pantry !   🙏

As for loo roll, we're not in Oz, but the latest loo roll panic buying reports from there, will no doubt lead to panic buying over here too !

Only plus side today, the air conditioning in the car works a treat, much cooler than being at home, or in garden, or on the yacht (kidding)

If we were desperately short of food, home delivery from one of the supermarkets would have been a life-saver.

There is a megastore Tesco just a few miles away, bonus being most of the car park is under cover.

No queues in store usually. Loads of space. Shelves fully stocked.

They do Click & Collect from there, just a day or two's notice.

Re: Tesco Home Delivery

I decided to look at Asda's offerings for delivery times, absolutely solid with booked slots, except for one, just one, on tuesday, between 8 & 9pm, so, booked, bagged and ordered, cos Asda has stuff that the within walking distance tesco does not, such as nice beers that I like...

Re: Tesco Home Delivery

We transferred allegiance from Tesco to Asda.

We could book slots 3 weeks in advance with Asda, which we did weekly, amending just before slot.

So only ever one week wait at most for delivery.

In practise, just one day !

Our Asda home delivery was sourced from a large Asda in a small town, so not too much demand

Re: Tesco Home Delivery

Tesco van brokdown yesterday, went back to the store with my order on it.

Nice young man rang to say I could either cancel the order or go to store and pick it up. I pointed out if I could go store I wouldn't  be on priority delivery. Ah! Says he, I'll see what I can do. It was delivered 9hrs later, much appreicated and top marks to Tesco BUT...

their strawberries were rubbish best before date of Wednesday but one was mouldy and the others were soft a squashy. Straight in the bin.
