Tennis at the O2

This week we have the top 8 best tennis players in the world this year in London for the ATP World Tour Finals at the O2.
Yesterday Andy Murray won his first match against Soderling. Smiley
We'll be there tonight to watch what looks like a good match between Nadal and Roddick Smiley  The O2 is proving a great venue for tennis and there is a good week in store for tennis fans Smiley Smiley

Brilliant!
Venue looks great and apparently the players really enjoy it there because of the dark background.

Its a pity that it took so long before O2 managed to sort that 2000 waste of money out, should be good to see the Olympics coming from there

Not only the players.  It's great for spectators as well.  Excellent view of the court, very comfortable seating and plenty of restaurants to grab a meal before settling down for the tennis.  Smiley Smiley

Did you go there in 2000 or are you relying on what the press said about it. It was the press that had a very negative impact on the dome. Everyone I know that went to it in 2000 had a very enjoyable day.

Have to agree with you Itsme.  I went to the dome and had an enjoyable visit and well worth the £10 entrance charge. Smiley

Re: Tennis at the O2

Was it the Nadal/ Roddick game you saw artmo? From what I heard Roddick was all over him in the first set. Interesting game between Fed and Murray today; my money’s on AM, what’s your thought?

Re: Tennis at the O2

Yes it was Nadal v Roddick we saw.  Roddick started very well taking the first set 6-3.  The second set went to Nadal in a tie break.  The third set could have gone either way but Nadal eventually won it 6-4.  Roddick was serving at speeds upwards of 143mph - unbelievable to see life Smiley
Federer v Murray looks a good match today.  Murray is certainly playing well at present and will be a threat to Fed.  He could pull it off.

Well I got that one well and truly wrong Embarrassed  Federer walloped him.  Hope my Ashes prediction of 2-1 to us isn't as inaccurate  Wink

I went there quite a few times whilst it was being built and hadn't got proper access and the car needed a wash afterwards.

How things change - it's now the  most popular venue in the world ahead of Madison Square Gardens and the Manchester Evening News Arena.

Re: Tennis at the O2

The building is now owned by Anschutz Entertainment, an American company and they lease the naming rights to Spanish group Telefonica, owners of O2.  The O2 deal is worth £6M a year.
The present venue opened in June 2007 with a concert by Bon Jovi.
