Re: Tenn sacked after commenting job was boring on facebook

I have a relative who puts things on her social website page which I think would be better left off.  Surprisingly it doesn't seem to be affecting her current job, but if she were at some future date to apply for another job and they checked the site . . .
Needless to say I wouldn't post on those sites for all the tea in the orient.

I've seen the stories about people having statuses set as being incredibly hungover and calling in sick.
It's really a matter of common sense Wink

So you must have seen that one on the The Register as well Smiley
Don't know if it was contrived (knowing the media it probably was) but I remember the story of that guy who pulled a sickie and had that e-mail exchange with his work who didn't believe his sickness was genuine. When he asked for evidence they quoted his Facebook status which said something like "I'm so hungover .. sickie tomorrow then", or something like that Grin

The reason I keep reading it is it injects a bit of humour and does contain bits of news which is more than you can say from a lot of the tabloids.
It looks like quite a few of my colleagues have taken up twittering (thats why I'm giving it a go myself when I can be bothered to write something.

I don't know how long she had been at the company but she could have a good case for unfair dismissal.

Re: Tenn sacked after commenting job was boring on facebook

It says she was 16 so those laws don't really apply do they (yes they should) but if it is known whom you work for and you make a comment such as that could it not be seen as damaging to the company?
The thing is, employers will use any tool available to them and only in the past 16 years has a public forum such as the Internet become available.
Maybe she just should have resisted the urge to write such a thing.

It would depend on the circumstances.

And maybe she should have marked her profile as private

Don't quote me on it, but the last I heard you can't sue for unfair dismissal until you have been working for three months. She was let go after a couple of days. She has just been on the news saying that some of her workmates had signed up as friends so saw her post.
