I really can't see the atmosphere, of crowds, in UK rivalling that of the people at the roadside in France.

I have never watched the TDF (apart from the pile ups on the news headlines) so I can't comment on the atmosphere, but I think Britain will do ok.

I know of at least one person who will be glued to the barriers as the cyclists go by but as for me it'll be just another day.

Re: Team Sky

I often watch the live TV of the race purely because of the wonderful scenery as seen from the helicopter and the very informative commentary about the châteaux, churches etc.

It's a race not a travelogue
A few years ago the French cottoned on to the fact that good TV coverage bought people to France for holidays.
The helicopter coverage is brilliant and commentators are provided with a book giving detail of places of interest.
I know I'm biased as a lover of both cycle road racing and France  Cool
What one never sees is the advertising caravan that runs about one hour before the riders. Numerous vehicles, some very strange, advertising many different products..
A prized possession in the green hand I collected in 2002 - nearly got the person holding it through car window as well  Wink
