Tanin in a china tea pot

Got an old china tea pot.... been using it for years... and as you can imagine...there is a build up of tanin on the inside... this is starting to flake off, and bits appear in the bottom of the cup... no problem there.. I don`t drink all ! ! .. ( just keep topping up ! ! ! )..
Any one know of a good way to clean out the old stuff... ?  ( I suspect the biggest deposit is in the bottom curve of the spout )...

Re: Tanin in a china tea pot

or you could try using boiling water and vinegar (which is also a great way to descale the kettle) then wash out the teapot to get rid of the vinegar taste.
using things like a dishwasher tablet is fine if your teapot has no scratches in it from stirring overzealously but if you do then chances are it will ruin the pot /
just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you

Or some hot water & baking soda leave it in for a while rinse and check.

If it's that bad I would buy a new teapot. They are not expensive.

Re: Tanin in a china tea pot

SWMBO has cleaned her (non-china) tea mugs using some of her fathers Sterident* (or more likely a cheaper brand from Lidl**) tablets. Took a while and a few tablets but did the job.

And the good news is......... The Dishwasher tablet with boiling water did a super job... looks brand spanking new inside now.... left it for about 45 mins while I had a shower, and just washed it out... loadsa muck !... now boiling kettle again for a good rinse out, and a special celebratory brew shortly ! ! ...

You missed a trick there. You could have used the effluent to make a refreshing tannin-rich drink! Cleans your teeth as well.
