TalkTalk is back in the news all for the wrong reason again

Hi All
From My forum here
Just seen this:
[quote="1000s of websites vanish as TalkTalk lets domain slip"]
Butterfingers
TalkTalk has apparently let the ukgateway.net domain slip from its DNS servers, knocking thousands of small business and clubs off the internet.
The problem emerged on Thursday when sites using the ukgateway.net domain started disappearing, and now the entire domain has vanished leaving the sites orphaned and untraceable, while those who phone technical support are reportedly being told their routers might be faulty.
UK Gateway, the original owner of the domain, was bought up by Tiscali about a decade ago, and Tiscali was in turn acquired by TalkTalk in May 2009. Thousands of small businesses, clubs and personal pages are still hosted on sites within the ukgateway.net domain, and have thus fallen off the internet.

Now on PC Pro
[quote="DNS problem takes down TalkTalk sites"]
Websites and emails have gone missing from a TalkTalk domain, following apparent Domain Name System (DNS) problems.
The ukgateway.net domain is currently offline, as are all the sites hosted on it, and a PC Pro reader wrote in to say his ukgateway.net email hadn't been working for days.
"I have a ukgateway.net email account and as of the 13 April this has suddenly stopped working - any emails that would have been sent to that account have vanished into the ether," he said. "I get 20 to 30 emails a day and have lost them all."
A ukgateway.net user posted on the TalkTalk forums that the domain name seems to have disappeared. "This domain has been unavailable since yesterday afternoon and users with ukgateway.net email addresses get an error when trying to send mail," the commenter said, adding he received an error message saying the domain "does not exist".

If you are fincking of moving to Talk Talk don't, Talk Talk there Technical Support is nonexistent.

The problem has apparently been fixed about a day or so after it was first reported

Re: TalkTalk is back in the news all for the wrong reason again

With the biker here, each time i ring PN tech support they're useless and tell me to do things like reboot the router (which doesn't help when you're telling them that since the BT number change, line fix etc you've got through 5 of them and now use a usb modem) BUT.. the price beats anything else out there other than mobile BB.
We use about 10Gb per month and thats a struggle due to the throttling but the rolling contract and price are still a big factor. When we find an ISP that comes reasonably close to PN we're gone.
As for TalkTalk, well what can i say? - I never rely on ISP domains unless its Yahoo, Google etc. Never a connection ISP as they've all had a history in this country of dropping their users in the deep stuff. We don't use PNs email or webspace despite both being available to us.
In short, i don't trust any ISP because they only specialise in providing the connection to the internet. For web, email or DNS hosting i use the appropriate specialists in those fields.

Indeed, I pay for each of those as I need them, I would only use an ISP's free offering *IF* and only *IF* I was able to purchase them separably too, I've had the same email account since the 1990's, but in that same time I've lived at 6 addresses and at each I've had a different ISP.  Horses for courses and ISP provide connectivity so that's all I use them for.

Yes my main account i've had since 98 / 99 too. Also had numerous others with my own domains etc but then given up on those for various reasons etc.
I just stick with my Y! account now as its been the most reliable for many years.
With webhosting i got fairly lucky, a friend of mine who is a web designer by trade has a VPS which hasn't had any downtime in over 4 years.. he hosts my 2 sites for nothing.
