Taking it easy.

The Industrialist was horrified to find the fisherman lying beside his boat, smoking a pipe.

"Why aren't you fishing?" asked the Industrialist

"Because I have caught enough fish for the day"

"Why don't you catch some more?"

"What would I do with them?"

"Earn more money, then you could have a motor fixed to your boat and go into deeper waters and catch more fish. That would bring you money to buy nylon nets, so more fish, more money. Soon you would have enough to buy two boats, even a fleet of boats, then you could be rich like me"

"What would I do then?"

"Then you could sit back and enjoy life"

"What do you think I'm doing now?"

From "Timeless Simplicity" by John Lane.

Re: Taking it easy.

A bit like my own philosophy (but without the smoking bit!), and quite a few people I know.  Living in a laid back area helps I guess, but for some it's all about the worship of money.

Re: Taking it easy.

@Minivanman

I guess the majority of people given the option would choose to take it easy.

It's not for me, I easily get bored and have to be doing something all the time, my worse nightmare would be to lounge on a beach, sit in a pub for any length of time or do something that required no sort of physical or mental energy.

Odd really as at my age it would seem logical to take it easy but I am never short of something to do.

Re: Taking it easy.

Same here, always looking for something to do and said when I was at work, "I really don't have time to go to work, to much to do at home" - which was true.

Always worked on the house m'self plumbing, plastering, electrics... knocking down walls. One thing that always bemused me was hearing those say "We've just had the decorators in, my hubby is sooo useless around the house" when really to my mind they were just making some sort of social middle class statement although true, they could actually have been useless - or even even just bone idle.

Take things much easier these days as I run out of puff, but still good to keep as active as you can.

Me, I'd rather do it m'self and proper (hopefully) job done. Thumbs_Up

Re: Taking it easy.

Bit like that song.....' Right said Fred climbing up a ladder', with other bits about 'another cup of tea' repeated throughout the song.

Can't remember who sang it, no doubt someone will know.

Bernard Cribbins, and without checking. Smiley

Anybody remember that film where he spent the entire time hidden under a canopy carving an inscription on some sort of monument only to realise when it was at last unveiled it read "Paid for by pubic subscription" Grin
