TV interactive red button blues...

Hi Folks
I wonder if any of you can help me with a rather annoying problem?
I have Freesat and for weeks now E4 seems to display a box with ‘Big Brother O’ (the ‘O’ being the red interactive button) across the top right of the screen
Now I have no desire to watch the Big Bore but it appears I am stuck with that message, I have seen similar items on other stations. Please tell me is it possible to disable the poxy thing?
Thanks
God

Re: TV interactive red button blues...

On the sky version you can press the back up button to get rid of them, I don't know if freesat has a similar button?

Also on Sky, in the options there is an option to get it to disappear after 'x' seconds - so you can see that there is interactive content available - but then it goes away.

Re: TV interactive red button blues...

Or, if you've had your Sky contract long enough, you can just disconnect your telephone line to the set-top box, that'll do it. But I seem to remember it is written into the contract that you need to remain connected to a phone line for the first 12 months.
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

This happens without being connected by telephone. It is a sky box but only registered for Freesat.

Hi Liam,
Exactly how do you do this (I couldn't find it on system setup)?
Although I can use backup to get rid of it manually, if I tape something after every ad break the thing comes back, so I need to find how to get rid of it automatically.
Peace be with you.

Re: TV interactive red button blues...

I remember doing this around my parents ages ago, just found this:

TIP: You can remove the red interactive symbol from your screen by turning it off under System Setup, Picture Setting, and then by setting the "On-Screen Icon Timeout" to "On". The red icon will still appear making you aware of interactive services, it will vanish after 30 seconds.

It's doesn't disable it completely though from what I remember, the bloody thing still comes back (albeit briefly) during adverts and the like, but it does mean it'll disappear on it's own at least.
Wonder why Sky don't provide an option to completely get rid of it?
Not that I'm cynical (ho ho ho), but I'd suspect they don't want to harm their advertising revenue Roll eyes

God,
How are you finding Freesat and what is the offering of programmes like?

@ artmo
I know the question was aimed at God, however I found that freeview has more channels than Freesat that are worth watching, like Dave and Virgin 1 which you cannot get on freesat, in order to view them, they want  the princely sum of £1/month per channel.. so I'll stick to freeview upstairs and my Sky+ box downstairs..
So, succinctly, unless you have a really poor digital terrestrial signal, It's freeview, unless you want to go for the new Freesat from the BBC, where you just pay a one-off fee for their dish and HD ready STB..

Re: TV interactive red button blues...

Thanks for that info.  Are you saying there are 2 different Freesats?  I read that there would be up to 80 channels available eventually.
Will Freeview continue?  This is all I have at present and it seems to have all I want.

Re: TV interactive red button blues...

I'm heavily into satellite forums at present having foolishly gone out and bought a dish and receiver kit (not dedicated freesat) and am in the throws of installation and configuration Angry
At the moment I have a selection of religion, gambling, online shopping and pornography interspersed with obscure films and cartoons but no standard terrestrial stuff but I'll get there. Roll eyes

Hi Artmo
I can't be a lot of help here. I am not a big TV fan, the main reason we got it was because where I live we can't get Channel 5 or Freeview. I detest the overpriced sky subscriptions so this was our easiest option to get a minimal acceptable service. I do enjoy having all the extra BBC and ITV channels along with Film 4, E4, More 4 etc. Sometimes there is decent stuff on Five US.
It does annoy me that there are some Freeview channels that don't appear on Freesat but that will change in time hopefully. IMHO most of the rest is the same rubbish that you get on regular Sky and Freeview, how many mindless shopping channels do we need?

That little sucker goes after about 20 or 30 seconds now... I guess that is as good as it probably gets, thanks for the help, much appreciated.
Peace be with you Alex.
