Sword of Damocles

On my way out to do some shopping I've just driven under this beast of an icicle hanging from a phone line in the middle of the road.

It's about 2 metres long and I haven't a clue what it weighs but we are hoping it melts quickly.

Re: Sword of Damocles

Certainly beats the usual pairs of old trainers commonly seen hanging from phone cables!

Edit:  Seriously though, I'm surprised the road hasn't been closed.

Hope the phone line does not belong to a PN customer otherwise some unlucky cs agent is going to get earache about interference or poor speed on their connection.

I wonder how PN faults department have found it during the cold weather.
It has pretty much melted round in London.

Re: Sword of Damocles

Attach the terminals of a 12V car battery to the phone wire to increase the heating effect and slice through the icicle. What could possibly go wrong?

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

I do hope the local Highways agency has a couple of these signs, to put either side of it...

Re: Sword of Damocles

It looks like water has been dripping onto the line for some time in order to form this work of art.  The problem with large icicles is that they are heavy, and having one fall on you could cause some serious damage.

Re: Sword of Damocles

It finally fell off the line today and no reports of injuries thank goodness.
