Stupid idea?

http://www.clifford-james.co.uk/buy.cfm/laundry/fold-away-electric-airer/68/yes/84421?affiliate=8,36...
To me there is a fundamental flaw with the design of this product - just wondering if it strikes others the same way?

Re: Stupid idea?

Yes - most of the warm air will be above the clothes, and rising.

Re: Stupid idea?

What a stupid idea, I wonder who was responsible for that, and more to the point what they're doing now.

But, convection would cause air to rise vertically between the bars.

Re: Stupid idea?

@rongtw That would sound about right TBH. It may well have been that very 'invention' that got them there considering how idiotic it is; he or she is obviously perfect for a position in Westminster.
Yes convection would do that but with the heating elements at the top and the clothes hanging down...

Re: Stupid idea?

It looks more like someone had a surplus of screw to the wall heated towel rails.
Now they have a surplus of folding legs as well.

It's photographed upside down and the lines between the two tubes to hang the washing haven't been fitted.

The warm air rising above the rails would cause some cooler air to be drawn through the rails to replace it thus causing some drying effect. However it seems very inefficient. I imagine a small fan would be much more effective for any given power usage.
Update: I've just spotted an airer on the same site with a fan at the base. Strange that the clothes seem to be closed in at the top and the sides.

Re: Stupid idea?

That's not upside down, if you look at the image by hovering over it you'll see there's no holes for any lines to be hung!
