Re: Strange Place Names

Not a UK place name but the name of this village in Austria was in English until it was changed fairly recently.

I'll just post a link in case anyone is offended by the name or the image of the village signpost ...

It's possible to drive from Brighton to Egypt then on to Barcelona all without leaving Cornwall.

Re: Strange Place Names

I can think of two, but I'd better not say as I would be told off if I were to mention them.

Still funny though, and seem legit ones.

I thought the signs saying, "Humps for 200 yds" were talking about road humps but now I'm not so sure.

Slightly amusing one here in the south-east: Pratt's Bottom

Further afield, Intercourse (Pennsylvania) is fairly well known.

When the Eurostar terminus was at Waterloo, I travelled from Waterloo to Waterloo; it wasn't cheap either.

Re: Strange Place Names

Well I hope I don't get told off for this but one I can think of:

There is a village called Lunt, and I remember reading there were residents getting annoyed. The signs kept being defaced with the first letter being changed. I'd better not say what to, but I think you can all work it out.

Re: Strange Place Names

Errrm - a letter that is more towards the first of the alphabet.
Better say no more.
