Re: Stormy Weather

British Airways broke a subsonic record for a flight from New York to London helped by Ciara. Flight time of 4 hours 56 minutes brought the flight in 80 minutes early. Speeds of 825 mph were recorded.

Re: Stormy Weather

Have they got that description right, I always thought subsonic was less not more than the speed of sound.

But what do I know. 😃

Re: Stormy Weather

I presume they mean a sub-sonic only by design aircraft travelling at a speed that is super-sonic, or something like that...

Presumably ground speed i.e. you can be going at a slower air speed and if you have a good tail wind in the air that you'll flying in, you'll go faster across the ground. I think! 😁

Ever helpful. Sure, I’d love to help you out. Now which way did you come in?

Re: Stormy Weather

I see that some of the papers have named this as the 'Storm of the Century' . Made me think of the episode of the Vicar of Dibly discussing the name of the storm they had had. Can just see all the journalist sitting on a conference call trying to come up with a name. FunnyAngel

Re: Stormy Weather

@TTman I thought of the exact episode whilst I was driving this morning.

Re: Stormy Weather

Still getting a few strong gusts here. And just had a few claps of thunder although I didn't see the lightning as the strikes were a few miles away and the sun is out.

Re: Stormy Weather

So long as Dennis brings snow with him from Canada so I can enjoy seeing people abandining their ill-equipped cars in 3cm of the stuff, then great... 😁

Also, it's snowing here right now, so, Yay!!! 😂

Going to hit us here in the west first, so if you don't hear from me for a few days....

Re: Stormy Weather

Winds already picking up round these parts. Just got my fence panels delivered but I think I'll wait until this one blows away before I put them up. Always assuming there are posts to put them on.

Spot on 😊  plane was never going to make a sonic boom as it never went anywhere near 700mph faster than the air surrounding it,  does that mean the flight back was a record slow flight against a 200mph+ headwind ?
