Steam engine return to Settle - Carlisle Rail Line

There's not much to the story, but I'll be booking a ticket.

@shutter - What does that mean? It's only 9 years old and built from scratch.

Re: Steam engine return to Settle - Carlisle Rail Line

It means.... that when I workd on the Watercress Line, station staff, I was allowed to go on to the cab and chat with the driver,...

( I took the pic to prove I had been on the footplate )..

Yes I know the history, and have several vids of it entering and leaving Alresford station...

Old steam train enthusiasts, ( trainspotters ) consder it to be akin to meeting royalty, when the can access the cab of a famous steam loco...

( I also met Princess Margaret, and had my pic in the paper.;......   but that`s another story ! ! ! !)...

Ah I see. Was the bacon cooked on the shovel?

'......bacon and shovels', is that a euphemism for something? Smiley

No! At least you have a vivid imagination. I was asking as I've seen it on the TV where the driver(s) cook their food on the coal shovel.

No... That actual "butty" he is eating came from the station cafe... but yes, they do use the shovel for cooking... and if you look carefully, you can see a can of HP beans on the top of the firebox doors.

I'm not booking a ticket but I will be checking the timetable and then finding a suitable spot to get a few photographs as it goes over the viaduct

@shutter

Thanks for the links to the photos.

The ribblehead viaduct is the ideal place, as you say getting getting the right spot is essential, great walking area.

Photos and a walk on the right day (weatherwise) what more could I want.

This particular stretch of line has had steam trains on this route in the recent past

Here's an article (video) from today's BBC Scotland site, regarding 'Ghost Trains' under Glasgow. Also according to the same site some 5,500 people used the service over its 3 days of operation.
