Star Wars... worth persevering?

I remember watching Episode IV in the cinema back in 1977 and, being a Star Trek fan, wasn't sure whether I'd take to it but was enthralled by the action and graphics.
However I was completely bored when watching The Empire Strikes Back on video some years later and even stopped watching The Return of the Jedi after about 20 minutes. I haven't even watched part IV again since then.
Now, with Part IX in the making, I am wondering whether it is worth returning to the franchise and, if so, how to watch them. Obviously from Blu-Ray but should I watch them in the order they were originally released or would I benefit from watching them in part order? I have heard bad reviews of the prequels so just wondered what other's thoughts were before getting 'stuck in' again Roll eyes

You got further than me....I've only watched about ten minutes in total, from all the films. It just left me cold!  Huh

You're not alone mav I've been bored with star wars for years. I always found the films are too long to follow properly
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: Star Wars... worth persevering?

This post isn't intended to start a bun fight it is simply my pennies worth on the subject as I've never watched any of these films nor do I intend too. I have been told by many that my head isn't wired right because the reason I don't watch this or indeed any Sci-Fi is down to the fact that I am unable to suspend my grip on reality and watch the film for what it is, entertainment. So when I see something like the light sabre for example just annoys me.

I must admit that nothing posted so far has actually encouraged me to continue watching any of it...
Might just start watching ST:TNG from the beginning, again Tongue
Or the ST even-numbered movies  Cool

For me I think rough and ready life in space is done much better in Firefly.
I find Star Wars watchable but only in a cartoonish sort of way. All that's missing is a few ACME signs.

Re: Star Wars... worth persevering?

I have to admit to having dozed off or slept soundly through all of them at one time or another.
Don't remember now, but may have seen the first one on a very rare visit to the cinema...it was that memorable!!
Haven't ordered the DVD for the latest one, nor am I likely to.
Give me the first series of Star Trek any day.

Do you really mean "incestuous"

Re: Star Wars... worth persevering?

Never watched any of the Star Wars films, they just don't appeal to me.
I have watched the Family Guy parody's of 3 of the films, there pretty funny.
