Re: Stansted Airport - sold

I hope they will run the airport better than BAA.  I was hoping that the new operators of Gatwick would get the airport.  They have done an excellent job at Gatwick since they took it over.

Re: Stansted Airport - sold

I've reservations about GIP owning Stansted, not sure I like the ownership of our airport infrastructure going out of UK hands.
At least Stansted is now back under psuedo-state control. I still beleive that Railways, airports, Water, Gas and Electricity should be state owned.
Although in defence of GIP, I think MAG have a challenge, I'd guess that Stansted has more passengers numbers than Manchester, East Midland and Bournemouth airports combined

Re: Stansted Airport - sold

GIP own 42% of Gatwick and have transformed the airport since they acquired it.  The Spanish owners did little by way of investment.
Stansted doesn't handle more passengers than Manchester.  They are very similar with Manchester slightly in the lead from the latest issued figures..

Manchester Airport is the third busiest in the UK, seeing a total of 18.9 million passengers in 2011. Stansted is the fourth busiest, with 18 million passengers that year.

Re: Stansted Airport - sold

and whilst the passenger numbers may not be that different, Manchester had 3 terminals and 2 runways.
So they've certainly got the experience of running a major airport.

Re: Stansted Airport - sold

The group also operates 2 other airports so have experience of the industry.
