Stand and be silent

'Silent Weekend' initiative aims to improve adult behaviour
Quote
Adults watching youth matches in Lancashire this weekend are being urged not to shout or directly communicate with players, referees and coaches.

He {Mike Caton} said: "There is no doubt that many children suffer because they cannot cope with shouting from coaches or parents. In my experience an average of two or three players in each team will be affected by it.

So, what will happen to the little darlings when they go out in the real world?

Re: Stand and be silent

The thing is..... when you are a youngster... and embroiled in the game of footy.... and you are on the far side of the pitch to your parent(s)... it is very difficult to hear shouted commands from them....
so... When the kid hears his parents shout, he must try to "decode" what they meant..... for example....
"Kick it to the goalie, harry"..... at the other side of the pitch,   might be interpreted as.........

Kick him in the goolies, harry !.   Shocked
Hence the request for parents at youth matches to remain silent .  Cheesy

Re: Stand and be silent

The instructors at the nearby Army Cadet Hall obviously haven't heard about the stress shouting causes the boys in khaki.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: Stand and be silent

@AA
its a stupid idea that was tested in real world situations more than a decade ago, it was proven to be utterly baseless and the only thing it produced were lilly livered gimps ill equipped for the riggers of adult life, much the same as the extra sleep time directive (yes there was an actual EU directive) that was trialled for more than 5 years and again proven to be a baseless "scientific" concept that only served to produce none trustworthy individuals with poor sleep routines and bad timekeeping......
the quicker the UK gets out of its current wishy washy re-inventing of methods of achieving the desired society through various mechanics and gets back to the tried and tested methods (like proper rules with discipline enforced through corporal punishment) to achieve compliance with social norms as established, there was a saying in Victorian times (and probably earlier) that still rings true " spare the rod and spoil the child" (which incidentally meant if the child deserves punishing then punish them and stop trying to create reasons not to, as opposed to the stupid idea that it meant you should beat a child regularly for no apparent reason)
prisons could do with similar things being implemented as well !

sod that make em stand in line in front of the fire hose and then chuck a scoopful of lye at them (for hygiene purposes of course), I don't care if prisoners are masochists but why should we waste money on giving them medical treatment for their abject stupidity .....
