Spring Forward....

As the expression goes, Spring forward, Fall back. it's that time of year when we think about putting our clocks forward to British Summer Time. Clocks go forward this Sunday, 30th at 2am and we go back to GMT on 26th October.
It will be nice to get some extra light in the evenings but we will have darker mornings for a while.

Re: Spring Forward....

Thanks 7up.
I've checked and on my Microsoft driven PC it definitely says Daylight Saving Time......whatever that might be Wink
Maybe they want to move the Prime Meridian to run through Redmond.

Re: Spring Forward....

it's known as DST elsewhere in the world - for obvious reasons.
In the US for example they change on different days to ourselves:
Quote
Start DST: Sunday, March 9, 2014
1 hour forward
End DST: Sunday, November 2, 2014
1 hour backward

Interesting that you mention that as it made me take a looksie at mine and I also found this which is the same as you mention:

For some reason I thought DST was the winter version which as I understood was an adjustment to ensure the scots got enough day light hence daylight savings.

Re: Spring Forward....

I'm sure there was a move a couple of years back to move the prime meridian away from the UK for 'internet time' .. Don't recall the details, though.
Really not looking forward to losing an hour's kip.
Or to the traffic on the Monday as the first working day after the time change is supposedly the worst for traffic accidents.  And they're all too frequent on the M4 at the best of times.
I thought it was all about Scottish farmers, too.  Presumably, that means that if the Scots decide to leave us we get to forget the whole thing?

Re: Spring Forward....

Majority of Europe will change their clocks on the same day and time as the UK. The time is the same in the spring and autumn being 01:00 GMT.

I don't see why it would be - GMT is the official time zone of the UK.
When was BST introduced and why?
I suspect the reasons for it being introduced were slightly different to the arguments that get chucked about every year for abandoning the switch back in the Autumn?
