Speedtest.net

Anyone else finding the animated flash speed tester on speedtest.net is increasingly slower and unresponsive?
Everytime I use it, I get the download 100% thing and then it freezes for a few seconds. I run the test and it'll do the test but freeze between ping, download and upload. By that I mean the animation will literally stop momentarily (taking the browser with it).
The old version used to be a lot better (2-3 years back).

Re: Speedtest.net

I'm seeing a brief (about half second) pause between each.

Smooth and completely fluid no pauses.
I'm using pale moon 12.

Don't know, but Bad Moon Rising was in American Werewolf in London.

Re: Speedtest.net

It's a bit slow to load on my main desktop PC, with an unresponsive period of a couple of seconds.
It's practically unusable on my netbook - not only does the initialisation take several seconds, but the results are much lower than the connection can handle.

Re: Speedtest.net

So I'm not imagining it then. That animation has become semi unusable from my POV. I wonder if there is any way to let them know?
Shame as speedtest.net used to be so easy to use.

Re: Speedtest.net

I get a wait of anything from 5 to 10 seconds between the 100% and the start of the test!
Latest took 12 seconds!!!
Maybe that's down to the virus checker scanning something? No, it takes the same time with the checker turned off!

Re: Speedtest.net

I always get a 10ms (occasionally 11ms) ping - which seems wrong.
There's no need for flash on any web page.

On the contrary, there is no other way of running an interactive program quickly or easily in a webpage other than activeX which only works for Internet Explorer.
An animated gif image can't run custom code, access the internet etc so in reality flash is needed. What has gone wrong here IMO is that they've upgraded the program with more bloat than it needs. A few years ago the thing used to be brilliantly fast.

Re: Speedtest.net

You prompted me to take a look for HTML5 speed testers...
This one has quite a dynamic display. It reported my speeds as 5.2Mb/s down and 790Kb/s up.
For comparison, Speedtest.net reported 5.18Mb/s down and 0.71Mb/s up. I also got several seconds delay between the 100% and the Test start, but the results seemed OK.
BTW Performance test reported 5.17Mb/s and 0.55Mb/s
I tried another couple of HTML 5 speed test sites but one reported my download speed as about 4.3Mb/s and the other at about 484Kb/s!

Re: Speedtest.net

I see what you mean about reliability...
I just tried the HTML5 one again and got 4.27MB/s download and then 5.25MB/s download, so consistency may be an issue. One of the other HTML 5 speed test sites stated that browser speed would cause speed tests over 2MB/s to be inaccurate.
Running Speedtest again reported 5.22MB/s download and BTW reported 5.58MB/s (which is higher than my profile (5.48MB/s).
The Speedtest delay is still consistently present for me. Even If I click back and forward on the browser, I get the same delay. I'm using Firefox 20.0 and Shockwave Flash 11.6.602.180.
