Re: Speculative invoicing

if they don't like copyrighted material getting watched /streamed /downloaded over the internet its their responsibility to ensure its not available without a paywall, personally I have zero interest in porn, but I am aware that my teenage sons regularly utilise their school provided ipads to watch the stuff, pretty sure they use one of the neighbours wifi though since its blocked on my firewall .....being that he's a sky customer with really poor encryption that his kids give out to everyone I wonder just how big his bill will be being that there's at least 12 teenage boys that are in reception distance ..... I hope it doesn't give him another heart attack, that wouldn't be funny /

Re: Speculative invoicing

I thought Sky had auto blocked porn back in January, and since you need to opt out in order to access it then this implies your neighbour has done this since your son and his friends can access it so it's his lookout.

Re: Speculative invoicing

well its not a crime to watch porn on the internet, teenagers will always be able to get to watch it wither that be through the school inadvertently explaining they can utilise a vpn to get round any firewall or whitelist dns server blocks in a lesson or be it through someone having no restrictions on their internet and then stream sharing the files.....
I don't actually care, its part of growing up and exploring who you are, indeed the only reason its blocked on my internet is because I have a younger child in the house and I don't want him exposed to such things before he wants to be, and then just like the rest have done he can also use someone else's Wi-Fi or figure out how to bypass the blocks on our internet, just because i don't have any major problem with teenagers looking at or watching porn i don't need to help them do it Smiley

Re: Speculative invoicing

It is all part of growing up that I agree with, but if the blunt truth be told he (your son) is committing an offense by using stealing your neighbour's (or any ones) WiFi without their permission regardless of the fact that the connection is unprotected.
But I hate to point out that your reasoning to block of your own account is moot. If your younger son does have an interest in having a look, he too could use the 'free' WiFi, all he needs to do is talk to his brother. My policy is not to have any content control on the network, that way I can at least find out where they (my sons) are going should I need to, and add to that it's not at the expense of my neighbours.

Re: Speculative invoicing

ahh but its only a crime if you understand and are aware of it, in town there are more than 100 free wifi hotspots, even our local shops give out free wifi here in the burbs why should a child understand the difference between  free hotspot and one they shouldn't use >
I know what they do on their pc and phone because I get activity reports telling me, I can log into the website and see what they do seconds after they click the buttons should I actually want to be a helicopter control freak parent, i know there are bad things on the internet and I don't want my innocent children to stumble on such things so I take steps to block that side of things, generally speaking there free to ask to look at anything they want, we might have to check that its age appropriate before giving the OK but that's a necessary step if you don't want to be arrested for kiddie pron or to damage the mind of a currently nice child, as it is there are far to many who don't even understand the dangers of the internet and allow their kids unrestricted access, plenty of stuff out thee to warp their sensibilities and remove any trace of a moral compass and plenty of wierdos out there trying to achieve that aim

Re: Speculative invoicing

I agree with you the Internet is not the safest play ground in the world, far from it, with lots of weird content and people on it. But it is good to know that you can monitor (if needed) what your children have been up to, there is many a parent that wouldn't even give it a second thought.

Re: Speculative invoicing

Today i received a letter from Plusnet saving that a debt they claim  I owe(which i dont) has been passed to a debt collection agency. Since I have not had any Plusnet services since August and received a refund when i left i can only assume they think i will somehow fall for their scam!

Re: Speculative invoicing

Normally a scammer would send an email! If I were you I'd give them a call to see what they're up to, if what you say is right then somethings got stuck in the works. It'll cost you some time to do this but ignoring may affect your credit rating.

Re: Speculative invoicing

Just been on the phone to PN who confirmed I don't owe them anything but cant explain why the letter was sent out. Have also sent an email to Karen Brocklebank-Lambert (Head of Billing) suggesting she sorts out the not fit for purpose billing system and furnishes me with an apology!!
