Spam Survey

Poppy has pointed out that Gmail is subject to a lot of spam....
I use PlusNet and Thunderbird, and don`t get any spam..... (well maybe one a month)...  Smiley
so was wondering how many spam messages do you get per month...
(just a rough estimate.... exact figures are not required! ! )

Re: Spam Survey

No spam in the inbox but a very small amount in the spam folder of the catchall (I go onto web mail about once every couple of weeks to check) and I get no false positives

Re: Spam Survey

I don't use PN mail, I have my own domain and have the mail hosted by gmail.
I get about 3 spam messages a month in my inbox, but my spam folder gets between 30 & 50 a DAY in it, I check it for the odd missed email but mostly they are spam.

Which is the exact opposite of my own experience and that of the many people I know who use Gmail.
I'd say Gmail is excellent at eliminating spam, in my direct, indirect and second/third hand experience.  Cool

Re: Spam Survey

Yes, I would agree with that statement - Gmail is good at filtering spam. The point about the earlier post was that it is the source of potential spam to others i.e. forum spamming.

Re: Spam Survey

I get 5 or 6 spam in my inbox a Month, but I get 10 to 50 a Month on my forum from Gmail and others, that is forum comment spammers.

Re: Spam Survey

I get about 20 a day into my business account, the address of which is widely available to anyone who would like to send me some spam.
My force9, gmail and gmx accounts are all spam free.

We run our own mail server in the office and used to get lots of spam. We'd tried various spam filters etc ( obviously nothing as sophisticated or expensive! as IronPort ) until we discovered a 'Greylisting' ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greylisting ) option for our Mercury server about a year ago, that almost killed the spam completely.

Re: Spam Survey

No spam at all on my PN POP3.  Had 4 in my spam folder on webmail last month.  I'm also very pleased with the way GMail filters spam.

Re: Spam Survey

pn's webmail has three from july 20 to date and gmail gets about seven a day, which usually goes straight into the spam folder.  it's rare that i get a spam email in my inbox.

Actually Poppy pointed out something entirely different; that a lot of spammers create randomly named gmail accounts purely for the purpose of registering on forums.
