Sock it to me...

Aching leg from driving a manual gearbox car, 2am, can't sleep.

Pills & Potions appeared to have no effect at easing the pain.

Hot water bottle was too rigid to wrap around leg.

Now where do I get a microwaveable heat wrap at 2am ?

So onto the internet, and discovered it's actually very easy to make your own, especially when it's 7 hours until shops open.

Sock partially filled with about 500 grams of dry rice, cable tied closure, then 2 minutes in the microwave ...

Works a treat.

(I used Brown Rice, but White Rice would be OK  !)

I did carefully watch the microwave in case the sock & contents caught fire / exploded, no such problem.

I've now re-used the sock combo a few times, in fact using 1kg of rice, I now have two !

They also smell nice when warmed.

And they work a treat at relieving the ache & pain. Instantaneous relief.

Re: Sock it to me...

A very handy tip, but I would have thought the cable tie would have melted being as they're made of plastic.

A float tip is pleasing in its appearance and even more pleasing in its disappearance.

Re: Sock it to me...

I did wonder, hence my watching, but the tie didn't even get warm, after two minutes.

They are specced to 85ºC. Presumably not affected by microwaves ?

Re: Sock it to me...

I have a new friend !

I now have a Midnight Sock Buddy !

It is nice & comforting to carry it around, just takes the chill off.

And it lies across my leg, like a faithful pet dog, when I sit down at the computer....

Well @Infinity that's an innoviate idea Smiley

Just wonder how often the rice will need changing before it doesn't smell so good?

Re: Sock it to me...

If you keep it inside a plastic bag (in the sock) then it should be fine. As that is basically what the head pads are.

I guess we all have different hardships to bear and struggle to overcome.

Rice is cheap enough to replace regularly, if needs be.

When you haven't driven a manual geared car, with clutch for a while, in an old sports car, you notice it !!

You can't leave it there. What old sports car?

I'd guess it would be something like a vintage supercharged Bentley.

Did they ever do a hybrid version of that.Smiley

Yep, it's not like you're eating it, so you don't care as much Tongue
