So glad I downloaded that...

I put this in Chit Chat rather than Software as it's more for discussion than help.
Is there a piece of software (free or paid for) that you don't use often but sometimes just have to say 'I'm so glad I have that' as it suddenly becomes invaluable?
One such software for me is LockHunter as it unlocks most files that fail to move or delete. I needed it today but it must have been many months since the last time.

Re: So glad I downloaded that...

For me it would most likely be XAMPP / PFPort Checker / NovaBench

I was thinking of my programme Unlocker on my XP which does exactly the same as LockHunter....totally invaluable wee programme that saves the day every now and then.

I used to use Unlocker but when I moved to W7 in 2009 it wasn't compatible.

DVDShrink for me! Will shrink a DVD to fit on the easily available 4.7 gig discs!
Don't use it quite so much these days, but it's nice to know it's still there.  Smiley

Re: So glad I downloaded that...

Me too and also DVD decrypter even though I don't use either of them now
I also use Infrarecorder as a CD and DVD writing utility but not very often now as I rarely need to
The one I do use all the time is FastStone Image Viewer for image resizing, removing meta data, cropping and minor adjustments as well as screen caps

Re: So glad I downloaded that...

years ago I burned a dvd full of xp related tools, one of them was the ability to boot into a windows recovery suite that bypassed all the passwords on the machine, worked a treat when hdd's failed for data retrieval (well for the ones that just had a bad boot sector)
several of them still work today under W7 but none of them work with W8....no doubt there will be an updated version made available in a few years (for free that is) I used to use magic dvd (and before that 321 studio's xcopy gold) before they were deemed illegal ......
