Re: Slow Cooker vs Pressure Cooker ?

Depends on the meat used. In a slow cooker you can use tougher joints (cheaper ones) and the long slow cooking time gives a lovely stew.
In a pressure cooker you would need to use more expensive cuts.
I used to have a PC and used it for soups, a 1 hour simmer soup could be made in 20min. Sadly is is now deceased.  But I use my SC for stews and curries, the meat usually just falls apart.

Re: Slow Cooker vs Pressure Cooker ?

They're not really interchangeable, each has it's own use.
For me meat has a bit of a flatter taste in a pressure cooker, so very much each to his (or her) own.
Pressure cooker will cook it quicker, I like to be able to leave the slow cooker unattended all day.

Re: Slow Cooker vs Pressure Cooker ?

I'd have to disagree somewhat with Hairy McB, I find that a pressure cooker (because of the raised pressure I guess) tends to tenderise cheaper cuts of meat - it even makes Tesco stewing steak edible.
I sometimes use mine to 'pot roast' a brisket joint and it works very well.

Re: Slow Cooker vs Pressure Cooker ?

I had Sunday dinner at a relatives the other day and the beef joint had been cooked overnight in a slow-cooker and finished off in the oven.
The roast potatoes had been put in the juices in the slow-cooker after the joint and finished off in the oven.
All in all a very enjoyable dinner.

Re: Slow Cooker vs Pressure Cooker ?

I use a slow cooker mainly in the winter and find it excellent.  Put the ingredients in and then forget it until you're ready to eat.  Long time since I used a pressure cooker - may give it a try after reading this thread Smiley
