Sloppy English

For better or worse, we live in a society where we may be judged not by how we sound — accents are irrelevant — but by how carefully we choose our words and how well we put a sentence together.
Fifty examples of common mistakes.

Sloppy English or poor Grammar on the Plusnet Forums do not get a response.

Nor a job interview either !
So many job applications and c.v.'s are discarded these days.....

Re: Sloppy English

which is a great things until you find out that during labours tenure children weren't actually taught how to spell as many of the teachers couldn't spell, they weren't taught grammar as again the teachers didn't know what it was , and then finally they failed in composition because the teachers  encouraged the use of text speak in formal pieces .....
whilst I find that I hate everything about that low English I find myself feeling sorry for the people on whom this crime of improper education was foisted  Wink
whilst I myself struggle through learning difficulties I will try to do things to the best of my abilities (at least when its a formal communication) however much of the current sub 30 age bracket didn't even get the benefit of someone attempting to teach them properly largely one the grounds that its easier to teach them the wrong thing and then correct that once they achieve degree level education .....less than a third go into university so that's a bit of a clue on just how clever labour were at keeping the country thick so it couldn't complain about bad leadership .....

One good side effect of smart phones is the demise of text speak.

Sorry to be pedantic (I should get out more often!);  plural of C.V. is C.Vs - no apostrophe required.

Thanks Strat I double posted in error - got over-excited!
How often do we see huge, professionally made signs outside garages offering MOT's.  We certainly have plenty where I live.

indeed and thank the gods for that Smiley
personally I never understood all of that oddness anyhow the only short forms I ever used were limited to those used whilst online I was raised understanding LoL meant Lots of Love and along with SWALK its what you put into love notes when in school it took me 2 years to understand some of the other connotations of those 3 letters ....

Even more picky
CV is short for Curriculum vitae
The plural of Curriculum vitae is, when following Latin rules, Curricula vitae

c.v.'s and C.Vs are both correct, as is CVs
if the v has a full stop after it, the correct plural form is as written, ie c.v.'s
And Google agrees !
And.... Old Jim is even more correct !!!

Re: Sloppy English

We should all get out more often!
It's all too much for me - I'm off to join my cat for a post prandium sleep.
And yes I missed out the full stop - still think it should be C.V.s
