Sky HD

I just wondered if the sky hd channels have better picture than the free channels.

If they're in HD, I'd imagine they are.
I think freeview channels that aren't HD are 480p whereas HD channels are 720p - I think.

SD channels are 576i
HD channels are 1080i on sat/cable and via DTT they dynamically switch between 1080i/1080p
The bitrates vary and this will have an impact on PQ
Though i think you need to define what you mean by  Sky HD channels and Free Channels...

The other variance is the amount of compression some channels apply.  And the +1 channels are even worse for it.

To define what I meant there are free HD channels such as BBC and ITV and a few others

that's still somewhat ambiguous.
do you mean, for example, is BBC 1 HD better on the sky platform than on the freeview platform?
