Sir Ken Dodd has died

Comedian Sir Ken Dodd has died at the age of 90, his publicist has confirmed.

I am sad, his standups were legendary for quality, and duration.

Doddy, famous for his long stand-up shows, as well as his Diddy Men and tickling stick, died just days after leaving hospital.

He married Anne Jones, his partner of 40 years, on Friday at their house, which was also the one he was born in.

His publicist Robert Holmes told the Press Association: "They got the registrar and were married in the house. He died two days later on Mothers Day.

"Anne is obviously very upset.

"To my mind, he was one of the last music hall greats."

A very good background item:

Personally:

I worked for a couple of years for the BBC at Liverpool, as a Freelance Video Editor.

Sir Ken would often park in the BBC management car park, as it was near the City Centre.

He would always pop into the Newsroom, and chat to all  the staff, my self included.

He was a really nice, and humble person.

He was extremely well liked.

He will be sadly missed.

Re: Sir Ken Dodd has died

Sad news, and if he is looking down I'm sure he'd smile at the thought of his coffin being carried down the aisle by ten or twelve diddy men....... followed by several wheelbarrow loads of cash he was known to hoard!

What a character, and a unique one at that.

Rest well Doddy.

A great comedian. Will be missed.

"Ken Dodd has died!"

"Did he?"

"No, Doddy"

RIP

Saw him once when I was a kid, must have been back in the early '60s, at the Liverpool Empire. I can still remember bits of the show. Very funny guy.

“Hey, are you looking at your watch? A watch is no good for you in this show. You need a calendar. We might be finished by Tuesday.”

Saw him during his Palladium run in '65, and came away with aching sides. Truly a legend in his own lifetime.

Re: Sir Ken Dodd has died

One of the best, both as a person and as a comedian.

Went to a number of his shows which often ended around midnight.

He had the ability to tell jokes that did not offend people unlike many of today's comedians who think it funny to belittle people and in particular those in minority groups.

To be honest I fail to understand much of what passes as humour these days.

He will be sadly missed.

It's sad to know he's gone, but in his lifetime he did make folk laugh in bad times as well as good. I say this even though his humour did not grab me particularly. I agree strongly with @gleneagles on the healthiness of his humour compared with current effluent.

No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Except he is no longer Sir Ken Dodd after death as the knighthood dies with him.

And God only uses Christian names, these are the names given at the christening, and the ones used in the marriage service.
