Re: Should violence be tolerated or encouraged?

The "blame" for the degradation of society, lies with society itself. If that society fails to police itself properly, in accordance with certain standards, then as those standard become eroded by the lack of control, then society will degrade itself.  By definition, violence and fear, are not "normal" behaviour, so by promoting violence  and fear in so-called entertainment media cannot in any way be "acceptable" to "normal" people.
It could be argued that war, and films of war, and the reporting of war, and it`s atrocities are promoting violence, but it is my belief that the opposite is true of this , as this is not done to "glamourise"  war, but is presented as historical fact, and in an effort to try to prevent similar actions happening in the future....  Yes, War is violence on a large scale, and is paid for by governments, and ultimately the people, but unfortunately it is so big that "small people" cannot change it..... UNLIKE the promotion of VIOLENT "GAMES"  ... War is NOT a game.... it is real, and real people get killed...
end of tirade on war..... another time.... another place..... please return to main topic
should violence be tolerated   NO    or encouraged    NO

Re: Should violence be tolerated or encouraged?

agreed,  but I thought we were going to stray into the ethics of war versus "entertainment violence" etc. so thought I would bring it round to the front again

Re: Should violence be tolerated or encouraged?

...but the question that arises from that is what age is old enough?....18, 21, 28 or 60....

I'm pretty sure that I'm not saying that, nor would I ever.
@pierre_pierre, you also misunderstand me.  I agree with a lot of what is being said here, and I agree with Shutter that self-policing is required, however, I think that banning a computer game whilst still having a classification of 18 is being somewhat overzealous.  Once again, this is simply my opinion, and I can't say that it is right.  Then again, who can say that?

Re: Should violence be tolerated or encouraged?

Anyone interested in a new game I've invented.
You've probably heard of Happy Slapping, well I have invented a new version.
It's called Happy De-Hooding.
Two people play and it's simply this.
One person sneaks up behind a hoody and pulls down his hood to reveal what's underneath Tongue, the other takes a photo and they then run away laughing.
The only rule is it mustn't be raining as that would not be nice Roll eyes
