Should the Royals pay for Palace renovation.

At the very least, they should pay something towards the estimated £369 million renovation of what is after only just one of their many grand homes.

It's been reckoned that the Royal family is worth a staggering £45 billion and yet here we are the taxpayer having to keep them in luxury and pay them for the privilege. Let's look after our 200,000 homeless and rising before spending a single penny for new plumbing and wiring on behalf of these historic hasbeens.

It's outrageous. Sign the petition.

Re: Should the Royals pay for Palace renovation.

I agree but sadly many brainwashed people will tell you they are value for money, work hard etc etc.

I personally think this is a disgrace. The Queen is a mother, she of all people should know what is like to want security for her family but it seems she doesn't care about other people having any security as long as she lives in luxury.

Re: Should the Royals pay for Palace renovation.

Yup !... they all have their own "businesses".... Duchy of Cornwall, for one, must bring in a few bob for Charly boy.

and they do refer to the family as " the firm"... when talking to each other... so , as Directors, they must all be on a fairly good screw..

Joe public has to pay for his house to be kept in good order... why not Joe Royals as well?

Re: Should the Royals pay for Palace renovation.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-38025513

The Royal Trustees, who include the prime minister and chancellor, recommended that the works be funded by a temporary increase in the Sovereign Grant.

The grant - which this year totalled nearly £43m - is 15% of the profits from the independent property business Crown Estates, which go to the Treasury.

The trustees say the grant should rise to 25% of the profits for the repairs. This would require MPs' approval.

Signing that petition isn't going to change anything. But if the costs are too high perhaps they should move out, or rent some bedrooms out to cover the costs.

Re: Should the Royals pay for Palace renovation.

Whether it changes anything or not, signing it makes our voices heard.

Voting in an election does not change much either going by what John McDonnell was saying about it on television this morning. You'd think a Socialist Chancellor would be all for the Queen and her brood chipping in but no, he'd much rather we pay and they volunteer.

No wonder people have lost faith in politicians when the ideological divide exists in name only.

Indeed, but that's a different issue?

Re: Should the Royals pay for Palace renovation.

The houses of parliament have been falling apart for years (structurally and politically), probably best just to boot 'em out and put them into the nearest low-budget conference centre where the chairs don't match... Grin

Re: Should the Royals pay for Palace renovation.

At last a Government prepared to use some of the money from the Crown Estates to repair the working palace of our Head of State.   If the Queen had all the money from the Crown Estates revenue and just paid income tax she would be substantially more wealthy. As it is the UK gets a good deal out of the current arrangement, it is only fair these national buildings should be properly maintained and not damaged by neglect.

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: Should the Royals pay for Palace renovation.

What's this "good deal" we get out of the arrangement?

As for being substantially more wealthy what's the point, she can only live in one house at a time. Time to rid ourselves of the entire bunch of palace parasites.

Re: Should the Royals pay for Palace renovation.

Why replace them?

As for Trump or a that Union leader, at least they were chosen and not imposed. Smiley

Re: Should the Royals pay for Palace renovation.

But what level of decision making does the queen really have ?

More likely a mix of people in high positions who support the crown have decided these renovations need to take place, fully agree we should not be paying but who would want to take her place ? Imagine all those speeches, impossible to go anywhere without the press or bodyguards, no chance of a quiet drink in the pub or getting up to any sort of mischief.

No thanks.
