Should Football be in the Olympics?

Looking at the ticket availability for the next round of tickets sales it seem that the public have not got any interest in football. Of the 2.3 million tickets available 1.7 million are for football.

Re: Should Football be in the Olympics?

So you believe it would be better to play all matches in London?

Re: Should Football be in the Olympics?

Yes and I was surprised to see football matches being played in Glasgow. Thought all events had to be in London if possible.

Re: Should Football be in the Olympics?

Wherever the games are played some people will find a reason to complain.  Sad

Agree with Artmo, it is the London Olympics.
Back to the original question (should Football be in the Olympics?), my answer would be No, I don't think "team sports" with more than 4 team members (Cricket, Football, Hockey, Baseball, Net Ball, Basket Ball, Rugby etc) should be part of the Olympics:- there are too many events for the number of days already.
Unless they 'split' the Olympics between 4 or 5 cities (say one on each continent), then have 'team field sport' in one city, Track in a second, swimming in a third, Sailing and canoeing in a fourth and so on.
Then spread the events throughout the Olympic year.
Edit: I noticed the recent YouGov Survey was on the Olympics, was this a question on it?

No because it's not a sport but a business...and a very large one with a huge customer base and making massive profits.

Re: Should Football be in the Olympics?

I can imagine the raffle at our local social club.
1st prize - A bottle of Australian Sherry
2nd prize - A ticket to the Olympic Football
3rd prize - A pair of tickets to the Olympic Football
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

They do this already, the events are called World Championships.
Think you miss the point of the Olympics.

Not all of it by any means. I'm no football fan, but there is huge amateur participation worldwide.
Similarly maybe motor racing should be included in some form? Probably NOT F1 , though it would be an interesting debate.......
And Tennis is in, with many of the worlds top professional players.  Cool

You’re probably right. I'm confusing sport and business.
