Shooting the moon !

Supposed to be one of those "supermoon" nights... so went outside with the camera and took this shot.

60X zoom plus digital zooooom... = 120X ZOOoooooooooom... !   Hand Held... adjusted slightly for contrast.

Re: Shooting the moon !

And to think, silly people in the US military wanted to nuke the moon to demonstrate their "power" to their soviet enemies during the cold war, thank goodness someone with sense gave them a "hahahahahaNO!" response...

Re: Shooting the moon !

Amazing shot....

That isn't a Sony DSCHX50 compact is it ?the 120x zoom seems to be same as mine...

Have taken similar moon ( not as good as yours though ) and handheld zoom shots that are truly amazingly shake free.

Sony has 30x optical, 60x digital and then clearview zoom,  which add up to 120x and then optical steadyshot which is optical and really amazing...... camera goes from 24mm to 720mm ( equivalent 35mm ) - only problem is lack of viewfinder - but for 99% of shots that is not a problem...

managed to find the photos 3 x attached hope they have not lost resolution

Re: Shooting the moon !

@wotsup

No... Its a Panasonic. DMC FZ72    60X optical zoom at 16 mpx   lower the mpx to 10 and it`s 72X optical.. ( some say it`s cropped 60X  but hey... I`m not ! ! ) .. lower it again and it`s 90X Optical... !

but I use it at 10mpx  and then you have 4X digital zoom to add via the telephoto lever.. brings it up to a whopping 379 x ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO000000000000oooooooom

Can see the nuts and bolts on a t.v transmitter mast at 8 miles ! 024.jpg

I would have taken a shot of that squirrel with my .22  air rifle,  not my camera....

That picture of the robin is truly amazing, giving a very clear view of the feather structure.
