Self driving cars.

Self-driving cars to be allowed on UK roads this year

What could possibly go wrong.

BBC News

Personally, I like to see the drivers eyes on me before I have confidence they might not pull out of that junction right in front of me, or as a pedestrian knowing they are going to stop at that crossing.

Can we really say the same when an invisible robot is in control?

Re: Self driving cars.

I assume that the driver will still be responsible. That they will be the one that has to face any charges resulting from an accident or traffic violation.

Are you still after a small electric car minivanman? Maybe not intended for everyone's use but it's still a complete electric car. You can't see the price in the glare but guess how much.

Re: Self driving cars.

@billnotben Long time since I read the (proposed) regulations for 'self-driving' vehicles on UK roads, but yes the 'driver' - or person with a licence in the driving seat is still ultimately responsible.

Those enclosed mobility scooters are horribly expensive, and from what I have heard from disabled people who have tried them, totally useless on anything but a billiard-table finish footpath, where you can do a 25 foot sweep into any required turn. In other words - a death trap.

Re: Self driving cars.

The other thing is I bet there are 'tells' that we don't even know we're sensing that would be sanitised away. It's quite scary really.

@billnotben

Still interested but where those Ami's might be a bit strange looking, those things are just plain weird and at what, two grand?

The sticker on each of those is, would you believe, £6500.

Blue and red, his and hers, a pair, you could have the two at the bargain price of £13000. Who would say no.😀

Re: Self driving cars.

I would believe that price tag, @billnotben . Whilst the market for that type of vehicle is extremely small, development, tooling, manufacturing isn't cheap so you expect a bit of a 'premium' price, but as  friends of mine who use the more 'conventional' scooters point out, they are a 'captive' market and there are only a handful of manufacturers - literally - the result being that you either pay silly money for a motorised trike - or stay housebound.

Looks like the type of car Noddy would drive, plenty of space for his hat.

Re: Self driving cars.

Well that's my home and car insurance done for this year. Managed to get the car insurance for £17 less than the previous year.

It looked like my home insurance was going to be a fiver dearer but a last minute requote came up with a £2 cheaper than the previous year special offer. Which was a bit unusual as they normally get dearer as the renewal date gets closer.

As they say every penny saved............

Really? I wouldn't buy a car without one. Use it time and time again.

But self driving cars. Sends the shivers down my spine. While I think you can get away with it on railways etc, the road has so many variables that I think they are an accident waiting to happen.

Ever helpful. Grin Sure, I’d love to help you out. Now which way did you come in?
