Search your soul and be really really honest...

Are you excited and looking forward to the Paralympics?
I have a suspicion that many are looking forward to another opening and closing ceremony but are not too interested in what goes on in between.

I don't have the same enthusiasm for the paralympics....yet.
The more I hear about local competitors the more interest I have.

I've always enjoyed watching the Paralympics as much as the Olympics.
There's no reason why there shouldn't be any interest - They're still representing their countries, and they deserve to be there as much as anyone else does.

Re: Search your soul and be really really honest...

I personally feel that it shouldn't be a seperate event. They're people like everyone else yet because they're disabled they're treated differently and given their own version of the olympics AFTER the main olympics.
It should of all been one big event so that the paralympians were made to feel like part of it and not seperate.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Not practical.  The venues have had to be adapted for the Paralympics.

Just got tickets to the games for Friday.  Have to admit my main reason is to have a look at the park before it is closed and altered prior to re-opening again.

I have been watching the opening ceremony and the inevitable ad breaks just spoilt it for me.

Me too.  Makes me want the BBC coverage again.

They would have made a better job of it and their commentators are more professional.......in my humble opinion.

I'm preferring the alternative commentary (descriptive) over on More4.  Wink

Re: Search your soul and be really really honest...

The looks on the faces of the competitors (or the vast majority anyway) during their entry was a joy to behold. I was really surprised to see so many wheelchair bound Japanese competitors, in Japan the disabled are generally largely hidden away from public view.
C4 at least got the sound balance better than the BBC, although I could easily have done without the black girl singer ear-piercingly screeching "I am what I am" (was she miming?) but then many modern girl singers seem to think screaming in tune (almost) is the way to go these days.

I gave in about 11.45pm so will watch the rest of it later today.
The commercial breaks were distracting. I hope they will plan them more sensibly during the events.
As with the Opening and Closing at the Olympics the ceremony was technically brilliant. A lot of planning went into it.

No more interested than in the main Olympics - that is not much at all - but I did see the some of the German Paralympic sailing squad yesterday while out walking at Worth Matravers (it was a bit wet) and only one of them appeared to be disabled. However I assume they need able bodied helpers as getting a boat sorted when you haven't any legs from mid thigh downwards must be a bit difficult

Re: Search your soul and be really really honest...

C4 got a bad press this morning as a result of the commercial breaks.  They said they didn't show as many commercials as normal which did not appear the case to me.
