Scottish Independence - Weather reports?

I expect a lot of people have noticed that Eire does not get a mention in the UK weather reports, (nor general News items either , unless it concerns UK parliament, the queen, or P.M)... and on the forecast maps ( the one with the little fluffy clouds and raindrops etc....) Eire does not have any weather.... yet Northern Ireland does...
IF Scotland gets independence, does this mean, Scotland will not feature in the UK weather forecast?  And what about all those Shipping Forecast areas around Scotland, ...will they be missed off the Shipping Forecast, by the Met Office?
As an aside, to the weather problems.,..... Why are the English, Welsh, and Northern Irish, excluded from voting in the Referendum? Surely we, too, should have a say in whether our United Kingdom becomes DIS-United Kingdom..... ?

Re: Scottish Independence - Weather reports?

If Scotland leaves the UK, I would expect that the UK weather forecasts would not include Scotland. As you say, Eire is is not included at present.
The shipping forecast is different, as it includes all waters around the UK, from Iceland and the Faroes, the near continent, down to Spain, and to the west of Eire and Ulster. See map.
As to voting eligibility - I agree that the UK as a whole should decide.

Re: Scottish Independence - Weather reports?

Although Scotland does feature in weather reports it's very rare the word Scotland is used, they usually say, ' Northern Areas'

Re: Scottish Independence - Weather reports?

Another point.... If Scotland does leave the U.K. will we have border control on all the routes across the border? with customs and passport checks, (both sides of the border)  as they will no longer be in the E.U. either,... until, if, they get accepted.
By all the routes, I am referring to..... Motorways, Major Roads, Minor roads, Country lanes, Railway routes, Air routes, and all Ferry routes between England, and Scotland.

Yes, as the UK and not part of the Schengen Area and if Scotland sign up to it England would still have border control as we have now. It's the Schengen Area that do away with borders not being part of the EU.

Not exclusively.  Wink
There are various arrangements between countries, and continuing the existing Common Travel Area would be more logical: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Travel_Area

Re: Scottish Independence - Weather reports?

Does the Common Travel Area actually do away with borders?
Quote
While the Common Travel Area has, for most of its history, involved an open or relatively open border, this has not, since the Second World War, meant that someone who legally entered one part of the Area was automatically entitled to enter the another part. Unlike the Schengen Agreement, the Common Travel Area provides no mechanism for the mutual recognition of leave to enter and remain, and the United Kingdom and Ireland operate entirely separate visa systems with distinct entry requirements. In general, a United Kingdom visa will not allow a traveller entry to Ireland, nor vice-versa.

Re: Scottish Independence - Weather reports?

Maybe we could run a Stihl Saw across from Berwick to Gretna and cast them adrift.
Border control would be expensive and difficult to implement.
Personally I don't think it's going to happen.

Re: Scottish Independence - Weather reports?

I bet the owners of Gretna Smithy, are really worried about the outcome.... If they did get independence. their income from U.K. migrants would slump... !
