Re: Schools exam system

Given that some struggle to spell their name correctly, could be a big challenge...

Mine was first year to take GCE "O" Levels back in 1951. Prior to that it was School Cert.

Re: Schools exam system

I sat 7 RSA subjects and the exams tested what you had absorbed throughout the year.
I find the idea of course work a little strange.

Re: Schools exam system

The problem I have with course work is that as schools are tabled on results that teachers might be tempted to assist with course work to boost grades.

Could a single exam be a test of memory and not of intelligence?

An exam is certainly as much a test of your ability to take exams as it is of your ability in the subject!

I can't remember, it's too long ago since I sat my school exams.

I guess it depends on how the questions are formulated.

From what I remember of my 'O' Levels a fair bit of the exam involved memory but also a large portion was dedicated to finding out if you understood what you had learnt/remembered.
