Schindler's List

I watched Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List last night and unashamedly cried.
It's the second time I've watched it in recent years and it had the same effect last time......a very powerful film.

Yes I saw it a while back on the TV. A very powerful film indeed.

Re: Schindler's List

Oh no - you've mentioned the film that had a really dramatic effect on me. I sat in the Odeon Leicester Square watching this film in 1997. My eyes were filled through most of the film, but
I cried at the scene where the stones are places on the gravestones of those that were killed. The pile was very high  - very sad. A film that was very resonant with me due to family connections. Enough said.

Re: Schindler's List

I was talking to my daughter about it..." I can't really say I enjoyed the film. It's not that kind of film to me".
It's more a hard hitting documentary with one hell of a message.
Definitely a film to see before you die.

Re: Schindler's List

From what I can remember of the film when I watched it, I thought it was rather flat and it didn't impress me much. I've enjoyed others in the genre much more.

Re: Schindler's List

I never watched the film to 'enjoy' it. I watched it to learn about an angel called Schindler.

I always seek gratification in any film I may watch. That is why we watch any film at all, whatever the subject matter.

I have to agree with you there.
I doubt any film, Hollywood or otherwise, portrays things as they really were/are. Poetic licence, the director's slant and just making it salable surely means that films are often far from portraying truth.
If I want to be educated I'd read a book or watch a documentary. If I want to be entertained I watch a film.

Well even if 10% was the truth, I'm glad I saw it.

Re: Schindler's List

The only thing I couldn't understand was why it was filmed in black and white? - Was there a reason for this?

Re: Schindler's List

Hi Sprite - have a read of this link http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108052/faq#.2.1.2 - very interesting stuff there. As you can after reading this, my thoughts above, are, to me anyway, very relevant.
