Scary stuff

This is only a short video but scary stuff all the same, and whilst I have some sympathy with those in the US who feel the need to carry a handgun, why on Gods green earth would anybody need to own an assault rifle?

Re: Scary stuff

USA citizens are given the right to carry and keep arms in their written constitution. However that part was added (2nd Amendment) to allow the citizens to form supervised armed militias to protect their country from foreign powers. It started in the Pennsylvania 1776 Constitution after a bit of a dust up with the British.

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

The reality of what has happened now in the USA is rather different where the holding/bearing of arms is unrelated to a militia.

Oddly enough there used to be a right to bear arms in the UK.

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: Scary stuff

Indeed but as said, whilst  I have some sympathy with those who feel the need to carry a handgun, why the assault rifle, and why not amend the constitution in order to exclude such a weapon? Here is the UK a kid on the street would even have to justify carrying a walking stick, unlike this pensioner Wink

Re: Scary stuff

In the film the Gun shop owner says , he does not sell assault rifles .

A assault rifle is a military rifle , he sells the same rifles but are not military so its not a assault rifle , its a semi - auto rifle .

the name assault rifle is missleading , basically they need to stop selling and rifle thats not a single shot Thumbs Up

Re: Scary stuff

I wonder how those gun carrying Americans view the UK.

They must wonder how I've survived 68 years without getting shot at.

Re: Scary stuff

The current restrictions of guns in the UK are daft. They are highly ineffective at preventing criminals and terrorists from obtaining weapons.

I'm in favour of the Swiss model where there's Universal Conscription and after that service people are enrolled in a militia with a requirement to keep the guns at home in a secure location or in a nearby government magazine. Currently this country is woefully undefended against an invading force. We're going through a period of peace at the moment and as always in history following a major war, the size of the standing armed forcing is reducing to nothing more than a display team. I would however want to see those weapons in the UK stored in local armories when not in use for training.

Along the same lines I'd be keen to see the Civil Defence Force reinstated. At one point in the UK there were 630,000 volunteers trained and equipped to provide assistance in the event of a major disaster.
