Scary Tech

I've just got back from the IFSEC 2015 Exhibition at the Excel Centre. As the name might suggest it's about security. There's thousands of CCTV camera to see there as well as intrusion detection etc etc. In short mostly boring corporate stuff. There were however a few interesting gems of products. One particularly scary one was a facial recognition application. If you faced the camera as you walked past your mug shot appeared on a display screen. Facial recognition has been around for a while and you have to register your face image in some way for those to work.
However the scary aspect of this technology was that an accurate estimate of your age appeared next to your image, even though I'd not registered with the system at all. Without giving away too much, let's just say it was 98% accurate in the age estimate.  I can see a use for security, but I bet the advertisers would love to get their hands on this to target you with age related advertising as you  walk past a screen.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: Scary Tech

I was playing with an app a bit like that. Same concept, photographs your face then estimates your age. Sometimes accurate and sometimes not. Easy to fill by squinting.
