Saffron

Saffron is fairly expensive and weight for weight is more expensive than Gold.
It was grown in this country at one time but as far as I know it is no longer grown on a large scale,if it's so valuable I wonder why no one grows it on a commercial basis .

Re: Saffron

I remember seeing a news item many moons ago about someone who had a garden patch about 5 metres square where they grew saffron.
The reporter didn't say where the garden was as they were sworn to secrecy because of the value of the crop.

Re: Saffron

They sell saffron in Costco - £9.99 for 1g I think. Comes from somewhere in Spain.
But this goes a long way with cooking.

Re: Saffron

That's cheap although I would question the quality.
I use a fair bit of vanilla and buy Ndali pods - they aren't cheap and work out at about £2 each pod.
